Welcome to the website of Triangle Community Steelbands Inc.
This group was established in 2009 after the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires in the Marysville and Triangle District (including Buxton, Narbethong and Taggerty), as a means of facilitating community and social recovery in the region. Since then, six steelbands have been established:
- Pans on Fire
- Hot Pans
- Buxton Primary Steelband
- Alexandra Secondary Steelband
- Dindi Moon
In 2016, Pans on Fire and Hot Pans merged into a single band, Pans on Fire. Jammin’ stopped playing in 2014, when band leader Werner Egger moved to Thailand. The school steelbands have discontinued after the disruptions caused by COVID. Dindi Moon is a small combo, including some members of Pans on Fire. In 2019, a new cohort of players joined Pans on Fire and have spent the past few COVID-disrupted years catching up on the exisitng repertoire.
Each of these bands had been started from scratch. With one exception, no-one had previously played a steel pan, and most had never even seen a steel pan. Most of the band members had no formal musical training. And yet they have now played over 180 gigs together, and produced two CDs. So it goes to show that anything is possible if you are enthusiastic and committed.
