Saturday 28 January 2012 - Whoroully Pub Concert, Whorouly (#36)

The concert at the Whoroully Pub turned out to be more exciting than we anticipated. Having set up and practiced in the late afternoon, and enjoyed a complimentary counter meal from the pub, a thunderstorm rolled in and forced us to put up the tent and break out the tarps. All hands were on deck to put up the tent and then hang on for dear life.

Having covered the baritone and double second pans with a large tarp to keep them dry, people were positioned under the tarp to keep it in place. But as the wind eased, while the rain continued, we started to hear the tinkle-tinkle of someone playing their pans under the tarp. Others joined in and soon everyone in reach of a pan was playing along with Watermelon Man. Some intrepid souls even took to the outdoors to dance along with the music.

But the show must go on and so with only 15 minutes delay and with rain still falling, we started the concert at 8.45pm for the 200 people who had turned up. Overall, a great night that will be remembered by all for a long time.
